TESTIMONIALS
We were part of the first group to experience G&T’s The Silk Road and the Best of the Golden Stans trip in August-September 2025. What a great experience. Being part of the world that is still relatively undiscovered, the lack of huge tourist numbers was a definite positive point. In all four countries, the people were unfailingly friendly, welcoming and helpful. There was absolutely no pushiness, hassling or pressure from anyone. In addition, this was the safest region anywhere in the world that we have visited in many years of travelling.
As usual, the organisation of this G&T trip meant everything was well planned and ran very smoothly. The guides – one who accompanied us for the entire trip as well as one local guide for each country – were incredibly informative without burdening us with a torrent of facts. They were also more than happy to discuss sensitive regional topics as well as the various aspects of their cultures and history.
Our excellent accommodation ranged from traditional yurts to high-end hotels. The food was varied and delicious. The landscapes were incredibly beautiful and often dramatic. The activities such as eagle hunting, horseback wrestling and yurt construction are not to be missed. Make sure you sample the local plovs. Some plovs are quite interesting! And, of course, the architecture is breath-taking, Progress is occurring at a fairly rapid rate so now is the perfect time to visit some of the more interesting cultures available to travellers on a worry-free, safe and rewarding adventure.
Hi Gools and Thommo,
Thank you both very much for the amazing trip through Central Asia!
Too many highlights to list here but a few were:
1) the amazing contrast in lifestyle between the modern cities and rural regions;
2) local bazaars and markets that overwhelmed (in a good way) the senses; and
3) stunning views of mountains, valleys and lakes.
It was a fantastic group and I am really looking forward to my next G&T adventure!
All the best.
Hi Gools and Thommo,
Just writing to say thank you for an amazing journey through the four Stans.
I initially was interested in going there because of the beautiful architecture and history of Uzbekistan and the role it played in the Silk Road trading route, but there was so much more!
Kyrgystan was a delight! From the nomadic tribesmen and animals to the wonderful mountains and canyons, there was so much to see and learn, and the people were so welcoming and friendly. Loved the yurt stays!
Kazakhstan and Tajikistan also offered up different aspects of life and culture and customs. Each country is so different from the other, and I will no longer lump them together as The Stans.
Our accommodation was excellent.
Our guides in each country were really knowledgeable and helpful, and our overall guide for the entire journey, Dimitrii, was just the best ever.
Anyone thinking of going will be blown away by so many wonders!
“Sparked by curiosity and rewarded so much more in reality, visiting the 4 Central Asian Republics was an amazing experience. Each country is unique in its culture and history, and the result is a journey of constant discovery. And then there is the tile work in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva – words can’t describe the magnificence of the buildings and the design!“I can’t recommend it highly enough. You need to go and experience Central Asia for yourself and to meet the delightful people.
“As ever, G&T have this emerging region nailed! Go before the rest of the world discovers it.”
